The effect is multiplied throughout the ambient, making a construction from the light itself. Throughout the days, throughout the months, the hollowed-out elements take on different forms with the incidence of the sun; at night, this effect once again is transformed; in a continuous process of metamorphosis, its form changes from the light.
‘We developed a special floor made of cobogó brick filled with concrete; a fully experimental work that resulted in a beautiful pattern,’ explains Humberto. ‘We employed sisal fiber as a natural background that complements the strong graphic effect created by the cobogó brick.
The bricks, which are typically used to provide ventilation and shade inside Brazilian homes, are characterised by their decorative perforated patterns, which are used here en masse to stunning effect.
"Since cobogó assumed an important role in the project it inspired me to search for other basic construction materials to explore," said Chu, who has also designed a micro apartment that made use of a compact wooden storage system, and a secret Sãeste Paulo tea shop, hidden behind hinged wooden flaps.

Chu's decision to include them in this project came about as a result of budget restrictions. "There was a cost issue, so I tried to take advantage of it using cheap construction materials as special elements for the project," he told Dezeen.

Two walls of white Cobogó bricks blur the line between indoor and outdoor and create a dramatic light pattern to add interest to a sparse space at the Cobogó House in São Paulo, designed by Studio MK27.
Used as partition walls to separate rooms, the cobogó create unusual graphics and light effects around the apartment.
The trio of engineers named these bricks, “Cobogóâ€, for no other reason than to incorporate the first two letters of each of their last names into the name: “CO†“BO†and “GOâ€.
Often used in buildings across Brazil as ventilation bricks, these blocks were originally created in the country in the 1930s and became known for their use by architects including Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer.
